Got Tartan?

1stdibs
Happy Tartan Day!

The Irish have St. Patrick's Day, the Italians have Columbus Day, and now the Scots have National Tartan Day.
Although I'm not Scottish, I still love tartan, so to celebrate, here are a few of my favorite tartan images, recent tartan acquisitions and whatever else...

Starting with tartan wear, not to be confused with tartanware!
I love how tartan plaid can be both casual like this exquisite coat..

...and formal like this ballgown...

Isabelle Randall
...or this wedding dress!

And this wedding dress.

Both casual and formal, this dress rocks!

Gorgeous silk taffeta tartan dress and unmatching jacket.

Plaid Taffeta Skirt
Peruvian Connection
This silk taffeta plaid skirt is what I'm planning to wear for a friend's formal wedding next January!

Country Living
Tartanware represents the bibelots and collectibles from Victorian days, like this little plaid knife.

Jeffrey Bank's private collection of tartanware. I love those napkin rings! From Romancing the Plaid book, a photo of a photo...

I just bought this tartanware cigarette case on Ebay, to be used to carry business cards!

How about tartan upholstered walls?

Love this subtle blue tartan which mixes well with denim.

House Beautiful
Plaid sofas are perfect for this ski chalet.

House Beautiful
Isn't it amazing how plaid goes with everything?
I can't ever get enough of this room! Transferware, plaid and toile, it all goes with the graphic carpet!

Remember this photo from my Airstream post? How amazing is this?

While I was in NYC, I wore my new Ralph Lauren wool tartan scarf/shawl. It was much appreciated during the two cold and rainy days.

My "go to" readers, another recent purchase from Jeffrey Banks was there when I needed to read those menus, price tags and the map!

When I got home from NYC, a package was waiting for me with this in it!
A follower of Vignette Design sent me her vintage lunch box and thermos, along with two long Pendleton skirts! She no longer wanted them and knew that I would appreciate them!
Do I ever! Thank you "R" for these wonderful tartan gifts!

Speaking of NYC, I wish I knew that the New York Tartan Day Parade is this Saturday, April 10th.

I would have gone a week later just to see this! Maybe next year...

HAPPY TARTAN DAY!

Hi Delores--I LOVE the skirt you are planning to wear! Do you remember the long skirts from the 70's? (maybe you aren't old enough, but trust me, we wore them!) I think they are coming back. I also had that same plaid lunch box when I was in grammar school! I wonder where it is? Your photos are wonderful--looks like you had fun over here on our cold east coast. My daughter spent junior year abroad in Edinburgh, Scotland, and while visiting her I found many tartan goodies to tuck into my suitcase! Love them all...

I don't think anyone cares any more about the 'right' to wear a tartan, but I am still proud that my family have one! Now I'm off to look it up, I have forgotten it, though I remember being underwhelmed because it was relatively quiet. Maybe my tastes have changed?

Happy Tartan day! The skirt you are planning to wear is a statement in itself! Gorgeous. thanks for sharing all the tartan.. I think I might just have to make some placemats like the ones on the lodge table! Come by soon, I'm hosting a Mikasa giveaway!

I knew you would have some GREAT tartan plaid pictures and you sure didn't let me down. My old lunch box is similar. I keep forgetting to get it from my mom's. What a sweet blogger friend you have!

Loved this post!

I love it all, especially the formal ballgown. I have a tartan plaid comforter in the back of my Jeep for spur of the moment picnics. Love your new Ralph Lauren scarf, and yes, you needed it in New York. I may try to convince my husband to take me to the parade this weekend :-) Many of our family members live in NYC.

Delores, I can't believe I've never heard of Tratan Day until all of your bloggers did posts about it this year. OOOOO, now I want a tartan dress. I loved every one of these you shared, and I love that skirt you'll be wearing to the wedding. How nice to get that great lunch box and thermos from a blogger! I guess I missed your Airstream post. I'm also wanting to run out and cover the walls of our RV with tartan plaid now! laurie

Delores, This has been so much fun celebrating National Tartan Day.
I love the tartanware case you got on Ebay. Perfect for business cards and of course, the gorgeous tartan skirt for the wedding.
Thank you so much for linking my blog to your post. This morning, I linked yours and others, who I knew were "celebrating".
Glad you're back from NYC. Take care and have a good weekend.

Delores,
I'd say that's a lot of Tartan Ware! My favorite would have to be the lunch box and thermos. . .seems I remember carrying one to school for my lunches. Ha!
Fondly,
Pat

Lovely post, as usual. I had that exact lunchbox and thermos when I was in 6th grade in 1959. I loved it. I had many a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with nice cold milk in it.
